REASON 8
One of the Two Witnesses May Be Enoch
Among those taken by God without dying, Enoch stands apart. Because of this, many throughout history have concluded that Enoch is a likely candidate for one of the two witnesses described in Revelation.
⸻
Enoch Was Taken and Did Not Die
Scripture is explicit:
Genesis 5:24 (KJV)
“And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.”
The New Testament confirms this:
Hebrews 11:5 (KJV)
“By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him…”
Enoch did not pass away.
He was removed alive.
⸻
Elijah Also Did Not Die
Scripture gives us only two men who were taken from the earth without dying.
Second Book of Kings 2:11 (KJV)
“And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.”
This matters because Revelation describes two witnesses who will die in the last days.
⸻
The Two Witnesses Must Die
Book of Revelation 11:3, 7 (KJV)
“And I will give power unto my two witnesses…”
“And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast… shall overcome them, and kill them.”
Scripture teaches:
Hebrews 9:27 (KJV)
“And as it is appointed unto men once to die…”
Enoch and Elijah are the only two righteous men recorded who have not yet fulfilled this appointment.
Because of this, many ancient and later interpreters concluded:
• Elijah would return
• Enoch would return
• Both would finish their testimony through death
This conclusion does not come from imagination — it comes from Scripture itself.
⸻
Enoch Already Has a Testimony
Enoch is not silent.
Scripture tells us plainly:
Epistle of Jude 1:14 (KJV)
“And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied…”
Enoch already testified once.
Revelation shows witnesses who testify again.
⸻
What If Enoch Returned Today?
This is the uncomfortable question.
If Enoch returned:
• He would speak the same words he already wrote
• He would proclaim judgment, repentance, and righteousness
• He would testify of the Son of Man
And yet today, his testimony is rejected.
The very book Jude quoted is now labeled:
• non-canonical
• apocryphal
• heretical
Enoch would return to a world where his own words are dismissed by the institution that claims to follow the prophets.
⸻
Would Enoch Be Welcomed?
History answers this question.
Jesus said:
Gospel of Matthew 23:37 (KJV)
“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets…”
Prophets are rarely rejected by pagans.
They are rejected by religious systems.
If Enoch returned today, proclaiming the same visions Jude affirmed, it is unlikely he would be embraced.
He would be called dangerous.
He would be called unorthodox.
He would be called heretical.
⸻
Summary
• Enoch never died
• Elijah never died
• Revelation describes two witnesses who must die
• Enoch already has a recorded testimony
• That testimony is now rejected
If Enoch is one of the witnesses, his return would not only confront the world —
it would confront the church.
